Inner Mongolia Keshuo New Materials completes Phase 1 of 20,000-ton pesticide intermediates project, covering bispyribac-sodium and flufenacet

The Wuhai Municipal People’s Government of China stated on May 8, 2020, that Phase I of the pesticide intermediates project, invested and built by Inner Mongolia Keshuo New Materials Science and Technology Ltd, is complete.

The pesticide intermediates project, launched with a total investment of Yuan1 billion for an annual output of 20,000 tons of pesticide intermediates, is located in Hainan Industrial Zone, Wuhai Economic Development Zone, Hainan District, Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia. It covers an area of 14 hectares, with a floor area of 74,402.44 square meters, and construction will be in three phases.
With a planned investment of Yuan300 million, Phase I covers a 2,000-ton 4,6-dimethoxy-2-(methylsulfonyl) pyrimidine production line, an 800-ton N-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-hydroxy-N-isopropylacetamide production line and a 1,000-ton 2-(trifluoroMethyl)-5-(Methylthio)-1,3,4-thiadiazole production line as well as auxiliary facilities.
Until now, all these projects have been completed and are currently under commissioning. They are expected to start functioning by the end of May. Phase II is planned with an investment of Yuan300 million with construction beginning in July 2020. Once completed and functioning, the entire project will generate annual sales of Yuan4.2 billion, profit and tax of Yuan500 million, creating 500 jobs.
The 4,6-dimethoxy-2-(methylsulfonyl) pyrimidine produced from the project is the intermediate of the herbicide bispyribac-sodium. Bispyribac-sodium is a novel, high-efficient, broad-spectrum and low-toxic sulfonylurea herbicide, which is mainly used for control of grassy weeds such as rice barnyardgrass and orientation of the development of high-efficient herbicides in China.
The 2-(trifluoroMethyl)-5-(Methylthio)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and N-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-hydroxy-N-isopropylacetamide are the intermediates of the aryloxyacetamide herbicide flufenacet, as developed by Bayer. Flufenacet has the advantages of higher herbicidal activity, broader herbicidal spectrum and a wider range of crops for application with high safety. (Agropages)
